Being natives to Utah, the Get Space team was familiar with the nature of the self storage market there and sought a better launching point to scale its appetite. This led them on a national search of the top 50 MSAs to find the best market where it could descend and build 10-15 facilities within two years.
But why Portland? Ben lived in the Northwest for 2 years and Daniel spent a college spring break visiting, biasing their decision from the start. Beyond Portland's natural draw, the Portland Metropolitan Area is on a rapid growth trajectory and the supply of self storage was already lacking. This has been driving rents as all available storage space gets gobbled up.
Get Space immediately went to work with Ben and Daniel moving to the market to oversee acquisition and development.
